An electroluminescent (EL) lamp is structured with a phosphor layer sandwiched between two electrodes; it functions electrically as a capacitor.
When AC voltage is applied across the electrodes, the light generated from the phosphor is radiated through the transparent top electrodes. EL lamps have extremely low power draw and generate no heat
under normal operating conditions.
EL lamps are flexible they can bend to conform to a product's shape and even operate while being flexed.
EL lamps are virtually shock proof and are not subject to catastrophic failure. They are as thin as 0.008 inches, allowing them to provide light while using minimum space. Their soft, even light is completely non-glaring. EL lamps can be used with any display, glow in the dark, promotional items and instrument panels and more.
